The Moaning of Life – Episode 1 Review

From the star of Sky One’s smash hit “An Idiot Abroad” and Channel 4’s “Derek”, the rather brilliant Karl Pilkington is back on Sky1 with a brand new 5 part series. From a description, the show may sound a little bit like a carbon copy of his previous series, An Idiot Abroad and some people may already be regarding this as Series 4 of An Idiot Abroad. Well firstly let me just say after watching the first episode, it is nothing like An Idiot Abroad at all, there’s no Ricky Gervais or Steve Merchant involved, it is purely just Karl on his own going around to see how different parts of the world deal with life’s problems. In the first episode, he pops to India and Los Angeles to see how they deal with marriage and it’s issues and with Karl not being fan of marriage he goes to agree with LA’s strategy of getting married in a drive-thru because “it’s quicker and you don’t have to get lots of people involved”, Typical Karl! Anyhow, this opening episode proved to be a bit of a slow burner at first as I simply could not get used to the fact that Karl was on his own and I was expecting a Phone Call from Ricky laughing or annoying Karl in some way but this was simply not the case! As the episode went along, I did get into it and there was some very funny moments and interesting moments too as it is different to see how other parts of the world deal with situations. Overall, I would rate the first episode at about 7/10. I will be sticking with the series and watching it through to the end, you simply cannot beat a bit of Karl Pilkington.

*The Moaning Of Life Ep1 is available On Demand now for all Sky TV customers and if you’re an L or XL Virgin Media TV Customer, you can watch the first episode via On Demand too!

*For those who like Karl but haven’t got Sky1, The DVD and Blu-Ray will be out in the shops on 18th November 2013.
