This Week’s TV Picks (W/C: 15th Sept 2013)

A lot of brand new shows kicking off this week! Here’s what to look out for this week!

1. Mount Pleasant S4Ep1 (Sky Living, 9pm) Tuesday *Repeated Next Monday at 10pm too!*

The hit Sky Living comedy-drama Starring Sally Lindsay returns for a fourth run. I have had the pleasure of seeing this first episode On Demand before it’s initial broadcast and it was a warming opener to which looks set to be another strong series. Lisa and Dan await the arrival of their new baby meanwhile Greg is released from Prison.

2. 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown S4Ep3 (Channel 4, 9pm) Friday *Reruns on 4Seven Sat 20th at 9pm*

Jimmy Carr hosts the final show in the current series of the brilliantly funny crossover quiz series seeing the 8 Out of 10 Cats team take on Countdown. Sean Lock and Jon Richardson are joined by Jo Brand and Vic Reeves. Susie Dent is in dictionary corner with Adam Buxton and Rachel Riley is assisted by Rob Beckett this week as Joe Wilkinson is still on holiday!

3. Jon Richardson Grows Up Ep.1 (Channel 4,10pm) Monday *Rerun Friday at 11:05pm*

This might not actually be a comedy show, but it is definately going to fit in the entertainment/factual bracket. 8 Out of 10 Cats star and comedian, Jon Richardson (Who I’ve had the pleasure of seeing live) is given his very own 3-part series on Channel 4 starting this week. He and his best mate, comic Matt Forde travel the country in a campervan in order to answer some of life’s biggest questions about Adult life of Kids, Money and Relationships.

4. Bad Education S3Ep1 (BBC Three, 10pm) Tuesday *Reruns include Sunday at 10:45pm*

We’ve waited all year…Jack Whitehall’s hilarious school based comedy returns for a third and final series! The School is still in financial ruin as headteacher, Mr Fraser has wasted the school’s money on his very own clothing range – Dolce and GaBanter! Alfie’s Dad (Harry Enfeild) is appointed as the new Deputy head following Pickwell’s depature, his first tasks are to make classes smaller and fire a member of staff to cut costs but Miss Gulliver won’t let it happen without a fight!

5. Celebrity Juice S12Ep2 (ITV2, 10pm) Thurday *Rerun: Saturday at 10:20pm*

The twelth series continues. Keith Lemon hosts with team captains Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby. Guests this week include Gabby Logan.

6. Big School S2Ep4 (BBC One, 9:30pm) Friday *Rerun: None*

Series two of the school based sitcom Starring David Walliams continues. This week, Ofsted arrive at the school to conduct an inspection throwing the staff and pupils into chaos.

7. Duck Quacks Don’t Echo S2Ep3 (Sky1, 8pm) Monday *Rerun on Saturday at 8pm*

Lee Mack hosts the quiz, his guests this week are Johnny Vegas, Freddie Flintoff and Mel Geidroyc. These episodes were actually filmed way back in May 2013! and they are only now just recieving their first ever broadcasts!

8. Alan Carr: Chatty Man S13Ep2 (Channel 4, 10pm) Friday *Rerun on Saturday at 10pm on 4Seven*

The guests on Alan Carr’s sofa this week include Lee Mack, Kate Hudson and Professor Green.

9. Rerun: Benidorm S4Ep1 (ITV4, 9pm) Tuesday

Another chance to see the fourth series of Derren Litten’s sun soaked comedy ahead of next year’s seventh series! Gavin has a new holiday companion in the form of Kenneth and Mick and Janice can’t find Madge. With a special guest appearance from Cilla Black.

10. Rerun: Hot Fuzz (Film 2007) (ITV1, 10:40pm) Saturday

Another chance to see the great “Hot Fuzz” Starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. PC Nicholas Angel transfers from London’s Met Police to the sleepy village of Sandford.

TV Pick of the week… (13th May 2014)

More top comedy to be enjoyed this week!

1. Comedy Playhouse 2014 – “Monks” (Tuesday/Tonight, 10:40pm) BBC One

The third and final sitcom pilot of the 2014 Comedy Playhouse strand. The first two, Over to Bill and Miller’s Mountain have failed to garn a good reception but Monks might do? This week’s final offering from the Playhouse strand is called Monks and stars Seann Walsh, James Fleet and Justin Edwards, it is a studio sitcom based around a group of Monks. Last in series.

2. Off Their Rockers S2Ep7 (Sunday, 7:30pm) ITV1

Strap yourself in for the series two finale of Off Their Rockers (which hopefully will be returning in 2015 for a 3rd series). In the final episode of the second series, Sonia needs help and Dave tries to play football with some young lads without their permission. Last in series.

3. Derek S2Ep4 (Wednesday, 10pm) Channel 4

More comic drama from the loveable “Derek”. This week, the old folks’ home visit London Zoo and of course Derek is over the moon as he loves animals. Also, whilst out and about Vicky meets her dream man.

4. The Cruise (Thursday, 9pm) Sky Arts 1

As part of the Playhouse Presents strand currently running on Sky Arts. This one-off comedy drama appears in the schedules on Thursday night and it re-unites Trollied stars Jane Horrocks and Jason Watkins but they’re not playing Julie and Gavin. No! They’re playing a couple who are preparing for a cruise. Jacky (Horrocks) is all ready for a holiday but Andy (Watkins) suddenly discovers cold feet!

5. Celebrity Juice S11Ep10 (Thursday, 10pm) ITV2

Strap yourself in for the series finale of Celebrity Juice. The madcap Keith Lemon is joined by team captains Holly Willoughby and Fearne Cotton. Guests this week on the series 11 finale include the sexiest woman in the UK, Michelle Keegan, Davina Mccall and Joey Essex. Next Thursday, a special “Best Bits” episode will be broadcast.

6. Bob Larbey – A Tribute (Saturday, 8pm) BBC Two

Penelope Keith presents this one-off special tribute to comic writer, Bob Larbey whose credits include As Time Goes By and The Good Life. *There’s also the chance to rewatch a Comedy Connections special and Good Life Documentary from 8:15pm*

7. The Guess List Ep.5 (Saturday, 9:35pm) BBC One

After a week away due to Eurovision 2014 last saturday, Rob Brydon returns to host another edition of his entertainment series. Guests on this episode are Kate Garraway, Eammonn Holmes, Helen Skelton, Bob Mortimer and Nick Hewer.

8. Viral Tap S1Ep4 (Sunday, 10pm) ITV2

Caroline Flack hosts alongside Carly Smallman and Matt Richardson to have a look through some more comical clips sent in by the public with big cash prizes to give away!

9. Bad Education S2Ep6 (Friday, 11:20pm) BBC One

Another chance to see the final episode from the second series of Jack Whitehall’s BBC3 sitcom here getting a rerun on BBC1. Abbey Grove are in financial ruin but can Alfie come up with a plan to save the school?

10. Mrs Brown’s Boys S1Ep3 (Saturday, 10:35pm) BBC One

Another chance to enjoy an episode from the first series of Brendan O’Caroll’s hugely successful sitcom about a Dublin mammy. Dermot wants to ask his best mate, Buster to be his best man at his wedding but will Maria allow him? *Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie will be released in cinemas on June 27th 2014, with 2 xmas specials following at the end of 2014*

White Van Man is a knockabout comedy sitcom with a warm heart about a reluctant handyman. Ollie (Mellor) dreams of running a restaurant but his hopes are dashed when his father Tony (Clive Mantle) suffers a heart attack meaning that Ollie has to take over his father’s painting and decorating business.

TV Pick of the week… (6th May 2014)

1. Comedy Playhouse 2014 – “Miller’s Mountain” (Tonight/Tuesday, 10:35pm) BBC One

The second of three comedy pilots as part of the 2014 BBC “Comedy Playhouse” strand. This week’s offering is from BBC Scotland and it is based about a team of mountain rescue volunteers. Conor is starting his first day as Mountain rescuee so old Jimmy decides to show him the ropes.

2. Comedy Vaults: BBC2’s Hidden Treasures (Sunday, 9pm) BBC Two

As part of the channel’s 50th anniversary, this very special documentary unearths material from unseen comedy pilots and also many deleted scenes from well-known BBC2 comedies.

3. Derek S2Ep3 (Wednesday, 10pm) Channel 4

More bitersweet comic drama. Hannah and Tom have some happy news to share and Kev’s brother decides to visit. With Special Guest – Joe Wilkinson.

4. The Trip S2Ep6 “The Trip To Italy” (Friday, 10pm) BBC Two

The final part of the second series of Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan’s trip to Italy. In the last episode of the series, the pair visit Ill Ricio in Capri.

5. Off Their Rockers S2Ep6 (Sunday, 7:30pm) ITV1

More OAP hidden camera pranks. Pranks this week include Seb learning to twerk and Sonia has a Sat Nav with a mind of it’s own.

6. Celebrity Juice S11Ep9 (Thursday, 10pm) ITV2

More fun and games with Keith Lemon as the 11th series of the hit panel show continues. Keith is as usual joined by team captains Holly Willoughby and Fearne Cotton. Guests this week include Chris Ramsey and Ricky Wilson.

7. Viral Tap S1Ep3 (Sunday, 10pm) ITV2

The public are still sending in their clips but is anyone really that bothered? This poorly recieved show continues, the only ‘good’ thing about this show is the fact that it is hosted by the gorgeous Caroline Flack – the rest is really pants! Netherless, if you are a fan Caroline, Matt and Carly and a special guest flick through the funny videos this week sent in by the public.

Another chance to see a brilliant episode from the second season of Jack Whitehall’s BBC3 Sitcom having a rerun on BBC1. Mr Fraser organises a special speaker for Drugs Awareness Day.

9. The Very Last Of The Summer Wine S31Ep6 (Friday, 11:40am and 6:20pm) Gold

Another chance to see the last-ever episode from the world’s longest running comedy series which ran for 295 episodes from 1973 to 2010. This finale episodes sees everyone arriving at the pub for the wedding, but Glenda receives a call to say the bridegroom has done a runner.

10. Live At The Apollo S3Ep2 (Friday, 9pm) Comedy Central

A chance to see two top stand-up comedians at their finest. Jimmy Carr hosts this episode pulling off some cracking one-liners and jokes then he’s joined by Alan Carr who, just for the record is not his brother nor are they related.
